So, it’s been a while since I posted something (was going through a writer’s block I guess lol) I hope everyone is in the best of spirits. The Prime Minister of India ordered a nationwide lockdown on 24th March 2020 due to COVID-19 and since then we’ve all been sitting at home, lazing around, watching netflix and amazon prime, maintaining those snapstreaks and putting up insta stories daily, there has also been an increase of 20% in the dating apps such as tinder & bumble too, the screen-times on our phones have almost reached 8-10 hours a day. Basically, we’re doing nothing, we’re all just doomed in this social media world which is devouring us slowly on a daily basis (too philosophical?)
The situation of the virus has gotten worse with thousands of cases coming up every day, while we are just sitting at home- whiling away our time. Some of our friends and relatives are “WFH” (Working from Home) and we are all just- sleeping our days away. The main reason why I thought of writing today after a year was because I realized the fact that my friends and acquaintances are going through some feelings such as “uselessness”, “melancholia”, “lethargic” and “sluggish” including myself. Our inner sloth is at its peak and we are not able to be as productive as we wish to be. I just want to say to everyone that- It’s Okay! You are not the only one who is “not” being productive. We need to understand that this is a very crucial time and we all are collectively going through it, you and me are not the subjects of this havoc but the entire human civilization. Us humans have faced many epidemics and pandemics over the centuries and have lost millions of lives along the way, some of them are still among us- HIV/AIDS & Swine Flu.
There have been almost 346,891 deaths worldwide due to COVID-19, people are starving, they are homeless, economies have collapsed, students are passive-learning, people are stuck in other countries, sanitation has hit rock bottom, while we are worried about whether- We shall be able to intern this summer or not? Will our exams be held or not? Will we ever be able to get out and meet our friends or not? We SHOULD NOT be worried about these things at the moment as we have a huge responsibility on our heads, we are accountable for not just our health but the health of our family members as well, if we are sanitized and protected, we need to make sure our family is too. We already have sat at our homes for over 2 months now, getting out of our houses without any necessary precautions will make “our collective” efforts go in vain.
Over 122 million people lost their jobs in April in India, according to estimates from Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy. Around 75% of them were small traders and wage-labourers. This is a situation of a worldwide emergency and worrying about being unproductive is the last thing that should cross our minds; indeed, you should try to do something at home? maybe learn a language? do household chores? cook food? pursue an online course? read books? But, even if you don’t- It’s Okay, because you are not alone, we are 1.2 billion youth “sitting” right with you!

Very well said and so so true ….

Well said young man! Actually, I am sure each one of us, whether young and inquisitives like you or matured/aged/experienced (these are some of the adjectives often used for people like me who are on the wrong side of age) have definitely “learnt” from this experience. Though we may not realize but for sure this experience has been a learning one. If you ponder you can see/ feel them. For example I have learnt that you move from towards front while you sweep floors and move backwards while you mop it(LOL)! Jokes apart just ponder and I am sure you can list down or even pen down your new learnings! So even if you hate reading books, ITS OKAY…..as life will still teach you a lot! Keep up the good work.
